Scepticism – Challenge – Hobby

“There is nothing permanent except change” Last few weeks have been very challenging for most of us and at the same time there were a lot of learnings too. While the whole planet stands united, in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic, each one of us adapted to a new way of living and working online, and at the same time staying safe in our homes. At Toastmasters, given the social distancing guidelines and not being able to do weekly meetings in person, we adopted to similar changes and evolved into much better version of ourselves. There is always a fear of unknowns when we enter into a new regime, or a new environment. A similar feeling prevailed amongst the club members about getting online and attending weekly Toastmasters meetings. Members showed reluctance and scepticism to this change. Some of us had our reservations and inhibitions about this, never before tried, mode of delivering speeches. I, was one of them. At the same time, it was important that we did not lose time to ...

Travelogue: Plan the unplanned: A trip to Mulayanagiri

Image
Sometimes, you don’t just get up in the morning and set out for a trip. Sometimes, you are not alone. Sometimes, there are a lot of places which you refuse to go to, before you finalize one. Sometimes, planning is must before you start your journey. ‘Why?’, you ask. Well, sometimes, it is better, that everything is planned beforehand and you just relax and enjoy your time, rather than worrying and figuring out your path all along. Our team was involved in similar planning during the early days in November last year, which would also be our first team outing, but the planning was going nowhere. It was towards the month end, when a new team member joined, a full-time biker and travel enthusiast, who acted as a catalyst to our planning and we started planning actively. After hours of discussions, enquiries with hotels, resorts, homestays, travel partners, samosas and numerous cups of tea, we finalized the serene landscapes of Chikmagalur as our trip destination. To be more pre...

Travelogue: Camping Trip to Gandikota Fort

Image
Wandering Souls always find an exit into the nature whenever they like to and planning is one thing which seldom stops their path. Just like a sailor promptly set sails for the destination in reply to the blowing winds, wandering souls set out without much planning in the process and like to flow with the blowing wind. This is what happens with me and my friends here @ Bangalore. We think of a destination and the planning happens by itself. Something of this sort happened on the morning of 23rd Nov, 2018. One of us had heard about this so called, 'Grand canyon of India', which is about 300 km from Bangalore city and is located in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh. The Penna river flows in the area and the river view point from Gandikota fort is one of those sights that every wandering soul out there hopes to visit at least once. By the evening of 23rd, travel arrangements were done, as we had booked a rental car from Drivezy. Four of us pooled in, for the trip. We packe...

Travelogue: Sandhan Valley Trek

Image
It’s been 3 days now. Although my legs are hurting as hell, but what they feel is the adventure, the craziness that happened amongst the giant rocks of SANDHAN VALLEY. A well organized and executed program; the success of which is attributed to the core members of team “The Kayakers”. A 2-day trek which engulfed within itself loads of fun, thrill, adventure, many surprises and new experiences. With every step you take, you can expect a new surprise along the way. As for myself and my love for nature, I can say that I enjoyed the journey thoroughly and looking at the people enjoying in the wilderness, the feeling seemed to be mutual. So many days of hard work in arranging for the logistics and other trip essentials ended on 16th December, Friday when the actual fun began from Shivaji Nagar, Pune. Before beginning to describe the experience, this is to mention that each and every arrangement was made by “The Kayakers”. Our ride to base camp in Nagar district was a 30 member bus w...

Growing "adult" doesn’t mean growing "adulterated"

Image
Beware, you may get adulterated. No real life examples, no fictitious characters; this is not based upon any such premise, although, this is based upon the predicament which is gradually increasing in the mind of a common man or in this case a common woman. Do good and have good, this is taught to us from the childhood but at the same time, we also learn what goes around comes around, and none of this matters when we don’t belong to the right place at the right time. Obedience, discipline, etiquette, good manners, good habits are all inculcated in us as we grow up. These qualities or as they are commonly known “sanskars” get set in our minds by the time we are ready to face the society alone. But, if this is the case with every household, as can be confirmed by every other mother/father, then why do some folks fall behind in this race and instead of growing adult they tend to grow adulterated. Yes, you got it right, we are talking about the increasing adulteration in toda...

When I came back to the foreign land…

When I came back to the foreign land… I don’t know why, but everything seemed familiar. From far, I could see the ice capped mountains. But as the clouds engulfed me, everything seemed vague. Still, I was twenty minutes behind, to set foot on that foreign land. As memories blew in with a gust of wind, with intensity so strong, that I knew may be somewhere, sometime back I’ve been in this place. This breeze indicated a bigger hidden motive . Rather confused about my destination, my mind questioned itself, where does this road lead to? When suddenly, I was drowned in the pensive of emotions, which somehow brought me closer to myself. There was a left turn, followed by a right and again by a sharp right one. The memories grew closer now. Slowly they started hitting me, when I came back to the foreign land. The local breeze was slowly closing in on me. The moment I set foot on the ground, the land that had been foreign a while ago, seemed a lot more familiar, and ...

Meaning of the Indian National Anthem explained beautifully

On this occasion of 69th Independence Day, here's presenting you the english translation of our very own National Anthem "Jana-Gana-Mana" in a very eventful manner. English translation: Thou art the ruler of the minds of all people, Dispenser of India's destiny. Thy name rouses the hearts of Punjab, Sind, Gujarat and Maratha, Of the Dravida and Odisha and Bengal; It echoes in the hills of the Vindhyas and Himalayas, mingles in the music of Yamuna and Ganges and is chanted by the waves of the Indian Sea. They pray for thy blessings and sing thy praise. The saving of all people waits in thy hand, Thou dispenser of India's destiny. Victory, victory, victory to thee.
